Tracking Inventory Across Shopify and Your Booking Software

So you've built a beautiful Shopify store. Your products are selling, your collections are organized, and Shop Pay allows your clients to check out in two taps. You're selling online, you're selling in the treatment room, and business is good.

But there's probably one small problem you're facing: your booking software has no idea your Shopify store exists. And your Shopify store has no idea what you sold at checkout after Rachel's facial last Tuesday. You're updating two separate inventories, guessing at your real stock levels, and probably underselling or overselling product without even realizing it.

This is the inventory gap and it's one of the most overlooked problems in the esthetician business. Let's break it down.

TLDR: Vagaro, GlossGenius, Square, and Phorest have no native Shopify integration. Mangomint does ($50/mo add-on or included on Unlimited) and Boulevard does (included on all plans). If synced inventory matters to your business, those are essentially your two options.

The Real Problem: Two Systems, Zero Communication

Most booking software platforms were built to do one thing really well: manage appointments. And they do! But the beauty industry has evolved. Estheticians aren't just service providers anymore, you're retailers. You're selling skincare, selling merch, and building product based revenue streams that work while you're in the treatment room (or on vacation).

The issue is that most booking platforms haven't caught up to the world of eCommerce yet. They have their own little product catalog systems which is fine for tracking what you sold at the front desk, but completely siloed from any eCommerce activity happening on your Shopify site.

So what's the solution?

The Shopify Booking App Trap

Before we get into the booking platforms themselves, let's address the workaround we've been researching at Dope Magic: what about Shopify booking apps?

We did some deep diving and found Cowlendar, Easy Appointment Booking, Apntly, and Appointo.me are the top recommended, Shopify booking apps. They let you add booking functionality directly inside Shopify so you can have one platform where everything lives together.

But here's the catch: these apps are built for booking, not for service based beauty businesses. They're great if you're selling yoga classes or photography sessions but they are not built to handle the nuances of a salon. Things like service specific providers, treatment room management, inventory, intake forms, tip processing, or client relationship management are not part of their set up.

Wait.. Can't I Just Use Shopify POS?

There's another route worth mentioning too: Shopify does have its own POS system. You could theoretically add all of your services as digital products, use Shopify POS to check clients out in person, and bundle in any retail products at the same time, all in one transaction, all tracked in one place. The Tap & Chip Card Reader is only $49 (or $89 with a dock), and the full countertop POS Terminal runs $349. It's a genuinely clever workaround if you're already deep in the Shopify ecosystem and want everything under one roof.

The honest truth though? The Shopify booking apps we mentioned above are still not going to offer the same, thoughtful features like Glossgenius, Vagaro, or Square. You'd be trading features for the convenience of keeping everything on one platform.

There's no rebooking flow, no SOAP notes, or real client history. For product only retail businesses, Shopify POS is excellent. But for an esthetics or salon operation, it's not really built for how you work.
So if you go this route, no matter what, you'd still want to keep your salon booking software.

The best solution? Finding a booking platform that integrates with Shopify.

Which Booking Platforms Actually Integrate with Shopify?

This is where the field gets narrow and honestly, it's kinda frustrating! Of all the major booking platforms used by estheticians and beauty salons, only two offer a real, native Shopify integration (as of May 2026):

MANGOMINT

Mangomint built their Shopify integration and it's the real deal. When a client purchases a product through your Shopify store, inventory updates in Mangomint. When you sell something at checkout in Mangomint, it syncs back to Shopify. For estheticians doing serious retail volume, this is a game changer.

The integration is available as a $50/month add-on on their Standard plan, or included in the Unlimited plan.

BOULEVARD

Boulevard also integrates natively with Shopify, and it's included in all plans for no extra fee. Boulevard is built to be an elevated, polished experience from top to bottom, and their Shopify integration fits that philosophy. If you're already paying for Boulevard, you're not paying extra to connect your store.

EVERYONE ELSE?

Vagaro, GlossGenius, Square, and Phorest do not offer a native Shopify integration. With these platforms, you're managing two separate inventories, full stop. Some offer their own built in online stores, but they don't sync with Shopify.

"But Can't I Just Use Zapier or Something?"

For some businesses, a Zapier or API workaround is fine. But it's not the same as a native integration and here's why it matters for inventory specifically.

Native integrations are built to handle real time syncing. That means the moment something sells, both systems know about it. Zapier automations can introduce delays, require maintenance if either platform updates, and often can't handle the complexity of variant level inventory (for example: tracking a moisturizer in both a 1oz and 2oz size as separate SKUs).

If you're doing minimal sales or have a small inventory, Zapier or something similar could work for a little while, until you start selling more or don't have time to keep it up. If retail is a real revenue stream for you, it's worth looking into a native integration.

Comparing Booking Software Pricing

Let's talk numbers! Here's where all the major platforms land, so you can compare everything in one place.

VAGARO

Starting at ~$30/month (scales by number of calendars)

  • Affordable entry point, and the platform most estheticians start on
  • Pricing gets murkier as you grow. Text marketing, online forms, cloud storage, and the website builder are all separate add-ons with their own monthly fees
  • Clients are now required to create a Vagaro account to book, and Vagaro markets other providers to your clients after they do. Estheticians are actively losing clients because of this 😓
  • Processing fees: 2.75% + $0.15 per in-person transaction, 3.5% + $0.15 for keyed in
  • Shopify integration: ✗ None

GLOSSGENIUS

Standard: ~$24/month | Gold: ~$48/month

  • Consistently rated one of the most beautiful booking platforms on the market and clients love the experience
  • One of the few platforms that doesn't require clients to create an account to book
  • Mobile first design makes it easy for both you and your clients to use on the go
  • Processing fees: Flat 2.6% on every transaction regardless of type. No additional per transaction flat fee, which is one of the cleaner structures on this list
  • Shopify integration: ✗ None

SQUARE APPOINTMENTS

Free (solo) | Plus: ~$49/month | Premium: ~$149/month

  • The only platform on this list with a genuinely free solo plan, no credit card required to get started
  • Built on Square's payment infrastructure, which is one of the most reliable in the industry
  • The free plan is intentionally limited. Team management, advanced reporting, and more robust marketing tools are locked behind the paid tiers ($49–$149/mo).
  • Lacks the esthetics specific features you'll eventually want like intake forms, SOAP notes, tip customization, and service level provider management
  • Square has its own POS and inventory system, making it a competitor of Shopify so there is no integration and there probably never will be
  • Processing fees: 2.6% + $0.15 in-person, 3.3% + $0.30 online, 3.5% + $0.15 keyed in
  • Shopify integration: ✗ None

PHOREST

Starts around $150/month (custom quote based pricing)

  • Becoming more popular in the US. Tends to be used by larger, more established salons/medspas
  • Solid inventory tracking within its own system and good built in marketing tools
  • Every account gets a dedicated Salon Success Manager. A nice touch for onboarding and ongoing support
  • Pricing and processing fees aren't publicly listed, so you'll need to request a quote
  • Excellent for selling and managing monthly memberships easily
  • Shopify integration: ✗ None

MANGOMINT

Essentials: $165/month | Standard: $245/month | Unlimited: $375/month

  • Yes, it's the most expensive platform on this list and also the one with the most rave reviews from providers who've made the switch 👀
  • Standard plan adds Shopify as a $50/mo add on, putting you at $295/mo total. Unlimited includes it in the base price at $375/mo
  • Unlike most platforms, pricing doesn't scale per provider and you won't get penalized for growing your team
  • They offer white glove onboarding with dedicated migration support moving your client list over
  • The inventory sync alone reduces headaches
  • Processing fees: 2.45% + $0.15 in-person (the lowest in person transaction fee rate on this list), 2.90% + $0.20 virtual
  • Shopify integration: ✓ Available ($50/month add-on on Standard, included on Unlimited)

BOULEVARD

Essentials: ~$176/month | Premier: ~$293/month | Prestige: ~$410/month

  • Shopify integration is included on all plans for no extra fee
  • Polished interface with strong client management and built in email marketing that connects directly to your client data
  • "Front Desk" feature gives solo operators a big business feel without hiring a receptionist
  • Booking widgets embed directly on your website and socials. No redirecting clients to a third party booking site
  • Processing fees: 2.6% + $0.10 in-person, 3.6% + $0.10 virtual or you can use their Offset program where clients can absorb fees
  • Shopify integration: ✓ Included on all plans

So Which One Is Right for You?

  • If you're selling serious product volume and want everything synced: As of May 2026, Mangomint or Boulevard are your two options. Both have the Shopify integration you need. Boulevard is the better fit if you want a premium interface and marketing tools. Mangomint if you want bulletproof support and flexible team scaling.
  • If you're not ready to make the switch right now: Stay on your current platform, keep Shopify for your online store, and manage the inventory manually. If you really want to get better insights into inventory, use an app like Stockbot or Craftybase.
  • If you're just starting out: Our recommendation would be Square or GlossGenius. Square's free plan gets you moving and GlossGenius looks good and is easy to use. You can always switch later and switching is easier than it used to be.

The Case for Shopify (Even If Your Booking Software Doesn't Connect)

At Dope Magic, we believe that even without a perfect integration, Shopify is still the right choice for selling product as an esthetician. Here's why the biggest skincare brands in the world are on Shopify, and why you should be too:

Shop Pay:The fastest, most frictionless checkout experience on the internet. Conversion rates are measurably higher when Shop Pay is available. And with the latest Renaissance update, Shop is getting even better at converting.

Meta integration: You can sell directly through Instagram Stories, tag products in posts, and run Facebook/Instagram shop integrations without jumping through hoops. If your clients are on Instagram (and they are), Shopify puts your products directly in their scroll.

Email marketing integrations: Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend, you name it. The integrations are robust and built for serious eCommerce marketing.

Analytics that actually tell you something: Shopify's reporting gives you real data on what's selling, where traffic is coming from, abandoned carts, and lifetime customer value. Your booking software's built in store simply cannot compete with this.

Scalability: The moment you want to run a promotion, offer post purchase upsells, bundle products, add subscriptions, or expand beyond your clients, Shopify can do it. If you only use your booking platform, you will eventually hit a ceiling on product sales.

The Bottom Line

Most booking softwares were built before estheticians became serious retailers, and they haven't caught up. Vagaro, GlossGenius, and Square are solid tools but they weren't designed for a world where your product sales and your treatment room are doing equal revenue.

If you're prioritizing systems and selling online, Mangomint and Boulevard are the two best options right now.
